A train collision involving the Argo Bromo Anggrek long-distance service and a KRL Commuter Line occurred at East Bekasi Station, Bekasi City, on Monday evening (27/4/2026), disrupting rail operations on the busy Bekasi–Jakarta corridor and prompting an immediate emergency response from railway authorities.

The incident reportedly took place during peak evening operations, when multiple commuter and intercity services were active along the same network segment. The collision resulted in significant damage to one of the commuter train carriages and caused panic among passengers onboard.

One of the passengers, identified as Munir, recounted the sequence of events from inside the train. According to him, the KRL traveling from Jakarta toward Cikarang had stopped at East Bekasi Station when the incident occurred.

Munir explained that the stop happened after another commuter line traveling from Cikarang toward Bekasi was involved in a separate incident involving a taxi vehicle, which caused operational delays on the track.

“When we stopped, suddenly the Argo Bromo Anggrek train came from behind and hit the commuter train,” Munir said at the scene on Monday (27/4/2026). “The impact was strong, and one of the train cars was heavily damaged.”

He described the collision as coming from the rear, with the long-distance train striking the stationary commuter service. According to his account, the force of the impact caused visible structural damage, particularly to one of the commuter line carriages designated for female passengers.

Following the incident, emergency procedures were activated at the station. Railway personnel and security officers moved quickly to secure the area, evacuate affected passengers, and stabilize operations along the disrupted line. Train traffic in the surrounding network experienced delays as authorities assessed safety conditions and began recovery efforts.

The collision also prompted responses from transport operators and service providers operating within the railway ecosystem. Green SM Indonesia, a mobility service company, issued an official statement addressing the incident and emphasizing its commitment to passenger safety and service reliability.

Through its official Instagram account @id.greensm, the company stated that safety and comfort remain the highest priorities in every form of transportation service.

The company expressed concern over the incident and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting improvements in transportation safety systems, particularly in relation to operational standards and passenger protection measures.

“We are committed to maintaining high safety standards through our operational systems, supervision, and continuous service improvement,” the company stated in its official release.

Green SM Indonesia also emphasized that it will continue to monitor developments related to the incident and provide updates once verified information becomes available. The company noted that transparency and timely communication are essential in maintaining public trust, especially during transportation disruptions.

“We will continue to convey the latest developments as verified information becomes available,” the statement added.

The collision has drawn attention to operational safety on one of Indonesia’s busiest rail corridors, which serves a high volume of daily commuter traffic between Jakarta and surrounding cities. East Bekasi Station, in particular, is a critical transit point where commuter and long-distance rail services intersect, increasing the complexity of traffic management during peak hours.

Authorities have not yet released a full technical explanation of the cause of the collision. However, early reports indicate that further investigation will be required to determine how two train services came into such close proximity on an active line.

Railway safety investigators are expected to examine signaling systems, train scheduling coordination, and operational communication between control centers. These factors are typically central to understanding incidents involving multiple rail services on shared infrastructure.

In the immediate aftermath, passenger evacuation and service recovery were prioritized. Train operators worked to reroute services where possible, while maintenance teams assessed track conditions and damage to rolling stock. Temporary service adjustments were implemented to reduce further disruption across the network.

Passengers affected by the incident reported delays and congestion at nearby stations as services were gradually restored. Some commuter routes were delayed or adjusted while authorities ensured that the affected section of track was safe for continued use.

Rail transport remains one of the most heavily utilized public transportation systems in the Greater Jakarta area, carrying hundreds of thousands of passengers daily. As such, even a single operational disruption can have cascading effects across multiple lines and schedules.

Transportation observers note that incidents such as the East Bekasi collision often lead to renewed scrutiny of rail safety systems, particularly in densely populated urban corridors where commuter and intercity services share infrastructure.

While investigations are still ongoing, stakeholders across the railway sector are expected to review safety protocols and operational coordination mechanisms. This includes evaluating real-time communication systems between train operators and traffic control centers, as well as emergency response readiness.

For now, authorities have urged the public to remain patient as recovery efforts continue and normal operations are gradually restored. Further official updates are expected once preliminary investigations provide clearer findings on the cause of the collision and its contributing factors.
