Honda has officially launched its compact electric vehicle, the Super-One—also referred to as the “Brio Electric”—in Japan on Friday, May 22, with prices starting at 3,390,200 yen (around Rp379 million). The model is positioned as a strong contender in the small electric car segment.

Built on the N-ONE e platform, the Super-One is designed with a more sporty and “fun-to-drive” character. Despite its electric powertrain, the hot hatch retains a boxy retro-inspired design, enhanced with a revised chassis, wider stance, flared fenders, and a more aggressive posture.

The Super-One produces up to 63 hp (47 kW), while a Boost Mode increases output to 93 hp (70 kW). The Boost function is one of five driving modes available, alongside ECON, CITY, NORMAL, and SPORT.

The vehicle is equipped with a 29.6 kWh battery, delivering a driving range of up to 274 kilometers under WLTP standards. It also supports fast charging of up to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes.

According to Electrek, Honda drew inspiration from high-performance electric models such as Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 N and IONIQ 6 N, incorporating simulated 7-speed transmission behavior and an Active Sound Control system to recreate the sensation of a traditional combustion-engine hot hatch.

Inside, the cabin largely follows the N-ONE e layout and features a 9-inch infotainment display with Google built-in, offering access to Google Maps and other services. A premium Bose audio system with eight speakers is also included, along with a 13.1-liter rear subwoofer enclosure.

Local media reports suggest the electric hot hatch has received strong early demand in Japan, with some describing it as “selling like hotcakes.”

Honda Japan Vice President and Head of Operations Hideo Kawasaka said customer response to the Super-One has exceeded expectations.

He claimed that since pre-orders opened on April 21, bookings have already surpassed 7,000 units within roughly one month.

Following its debut in Japan, Honda plans to roll out the Super-One to Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, and other global markets.

In July, the model is expected to launch in the UK under the name Super-N, with pricing set below £20,000 (around US$27,000 or Rp480 million).
