President Prabowo Subianto reiterated Indonesia’s support for a two-state solution for Palestine during his state visit to France, stressing that lasting peace in the Middle East would be impossible without justice for Palestinians.
Speaking ahead of his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Thursday, Prabowo said Indonesia shared France’s position on the conflict in Gaza Strip and the broader Palestinian issue.
“There can be no peace in the Middle East without a two-state solution, without justice for the Palestinian people,” Prabowo said in remarks broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat on YouTube Thursday evening.
Prabowo praised France for taking a leading role in encouraging European countries to support Palestinian independence. He described Paris as one of the key voices in Europe advocating for a more balanced approach to the conflict.
The Indonesian president also underlined the importance of stability in the Middle East, saying regional tensions were directly affecting global energy markets and international supply chains.
“I agree with President Macron that stability in the Middle East is very important and will directly affect global energy conditions and supply chains,” Prabowo said.
He added that peace in the region should be regarded as a shared international interest rather than merely a regional issue.
Prabowo’s comments came amid continuing tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States following months of military escalation after the joint US-Israeli operation against Iran earlier this year.
The conflict has disrupted global energy markets, particularly after Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes. The closure has significantly affected crude oil exports from Gulf countries and contributed to rising global oil prices.
Indonesia has consistently voiced support for Palestinian statehood and called for peaceful diplomatic solutions to conflicts in the Middle East. Jakarta has also maintained that international law and humanitarian principles must remain central in resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Prabowo’s visit to France is part of broader efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Jakarta and Paris across defense, education, investment, and geopolitical issues. The two leaders are also expected to discuss regional security developments and economic cooperation during the state visit.
