ASSEN, Netherlands — Factory Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi was taken to a hospital for further medical evaluation after suffering a heavy crash during the Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday, with the Italian reporting severe pain despite initial examinations showing no immediate signs of major neurological or systemic injuries.
Aprilia confirmed that Bezzecchi underwent a full assessment at the circuit’s medical center under the supervision of MotoGP medical director Dr. Angel Charte before doctors decided additional testing was necessary.
According to the team, the 27-year-old remained fully conscious throughout the examination and retained normal movement in all four limbs. Initial clinical checks found no evidence of significant neurological complications, but the severity of the impact prompted medical staff to transfer him to Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen for more detailed diagnostic imaging.
“Following his crash during the Dutch Grand Prix, Marco Bezzecchi was immediately taken to the circuit’s Medical Centre, where he underwent a thorough evaluation by the medical staff, including MotoGP medical director Dr. Angel Charte,” Aprilia said in a statement.
The team added that Bezzecchi displayed normal mobility and showed no immediate signs of serious injury but would undergo specialized scans to rule out any underlying damage after complaining of severe pain from the crash.
The accident occurred while Bezzecchi was battling reigning MotoGP champion Marc Marquez for third place. The Italian lost the front of his Aprilia entering the fast Turn 15, sending the motorcycle sliding away before he was launched into the gravel trap.
Television footage showed Bezzecchi tumbling several times before coming to rest near the safety barriers. Marshals quickly attended to him, and he was seen sitting upright before being transported to the circuit’s medical center.
Medical personnel later transferred him by ambulance to Groningen Hospital, where further examinations were scheduled to determine the extent of any injuries.
The crash could prove costly for Bezzecchi beyond the immediate medical concerns.
The Dutch Grand Prix marked his third consecutive weekend without scoring on Sunday after an already difficult stretch of the championship. Earlier this month, he was taken out by Jorge Martin during the Hungarian Grand Prix before being excluded from the Czech Grand Prix sprint after making contact with a marshal.
Bezzecchi has now failed to finish a Sunday race since his victory at the Italian Grand Prix one month ago, ending another promising weekend without adding championship points.
Aprilia said additional updates on Bezzecchi’s condition will be released once hospital examinations have been completed and official medical reports become available.
