Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi personally inspected the evacuation process following a rail collision involving the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and a commuter line (KRL) service at East Bekasi Station on Monday (27/4/2026). The visit was conducted to ensure that emergency response efforts prioritized passenger safety and were carried out in an orderly and coordinated manner.

The Ministry of Transportation expressed deep concern over the incident, which involved two major passenger rail services operating in one of the busiest commuter corridors in the Greater Jakarta area. Authorities confirmed that evacuation efforts were launched immediately after the collision, with rescue teams focusing on assisting injured passengers and securing the affected site.

Dudy stated that the government was closely monitoring the situation on the ground to ensure that all emergency procedures were implemented properly.

“We are ensuring that the evacuation process is carried out quickly with priority given to the safety of affected victims,” Dudy said in a statement on Tuesday (28/4/2026).

He added that he was present at the site to directly observe the handling of the incident and coordinate with relevant agencies. According to him, the verification and updating of casualty data were still ongoing as the situation developed.

“We are continuing to coordinate intensively with all relevant parties so that the evacuation process can proceed optimally,” he said.

The Ministry of Transportation also voiced its full support for the investigation being carried out by the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT), in coordination with other authorities. The investigation aims to determine the cause of the collision, which at this stage remains under preliminary examination.

Officials emphasized that immediate priorities include victim assistance, evacuation completion, and stabilization of operational conditions at the accident site. Only after these steps are completed will investigators proceed with a detailed analysis of contributing factors.

In addition, inter-agency coordination has been strengthened to ensure that all stages of emergency response follow established railway safety protocols. Authorities stressed that restoring safe and stable operations along the affected line remains a top priority.

Prior to the minister’s statement, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Daop 1 Jakarta reported significant disruptions to rail operations in the East Bekasi area. The incident occurred at the East Bekasi Station yard, specifically at kilometer 28+920, on Monday evening (27/4/2026) at 20:52 Western Indonesia Time.

According to KAI, the disruption was triggered by a collision involving train service PLB 5568A (CL KPB–CKR) and PLB 4B, the Argo Bromo Anggrek service operating on the Gambir–Surabaya Pasar Turi route. The incident resulted in operational disturbances along the railway corridor, affecting both commuter and long-distance services.

KAI Daop 1 Jakarta Public Relations Manager Franoto Wibowo expressed apologies to passengers affected by the disruption.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience experienced by customers,” Franoto said.

He confirmed that KAI, together with law enforcement authorities, immediately initiated evacuation procedures for the train sets involved in the collision, as well as assistance for affected passengers at the scene.

“We are making every effort so that train operations can return to normal as soon as possible,” he added.

KAI stated that emergency teams were deployed quickly to secure the location and coordinate with relevant stakeholders to accelerate evacuation and service recovery. As part of safety measures, the overhead electrical line (LAA) on the Cibitung–East Bekasi route was temporarily deactivated to prevent further risk during handling operations.

The company also confirmed that both the cause of the incident and the number of affected train services are still under investigation. Updates will be provided progressively as authorities continue to collect data and assess conditions in the field.

The East Bekasi rail collision has drawn attention due to its impact on one of Indonesia’s key commuter routes, which serves tens of thousands of passengers daily. As investigations continue, transportation authorities have reiterated their commitment to transparency, safety improvements, and restoring public confidence in rail operations.
