Thousands of Scotland supporters who have descended on Boston for the World Cup took a break from football on Sunday, bringing their traveling “Tartan Army” atmosphere to Fenway Park and turning their attention briefly to baseball.
The fans marched through the city accompanied by more than a dozen bagpipes before arriving at the home of the Boston Red Sox, where the team was hosting the Texas Rangers. The visit came a day after Scotland secured its first World Cup victory since 1990, a 1-0 win over Haiti that sparked celebrations across the traveling fanbase.
Inside and outside the stadium, Scotland supporters sang loudly and waved flags, performing renditions of traditional songs including “Flower of Scotland,” which serves as a national football anthem. Their presence drew attention from Red Sox fans as the two groups mingled in and around the ballpark.
The large turnout highlighted the strong traveling support Scotland has brought to the tournament in the United States, with Boston serving as one of the key gathering points for supporters.
Scotland next face Morocco in Boston on Friday for their second group match before traveling to Miami to play Brazil on June 24.
