One Indonesian military member serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was killed, and three others were injured during an Israeli artillery attack in southern Lebanon, officials confirmed on Monday.
Brigadier General TNI Rico Ricardo Sirait, Head of the Defense Information Bureau at the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, said one soldier died, one sustained serious injuries, and two others suffered minor injuries. All injured personnel are receiving medical treatment.
The incident occurred on Sunday in Adshit al-Qusyar amid escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. According to Brig. Gen. Rico, the Indonesian contingent was targeted during an exchange of artillery fire. UNIFIL is currently clarifying the circumstances of the attack.
“The incident happened amidst an exchange of artillery fire, and the clarification process is still being carried out by UNIFIL,” Brig. Gen. Rico said. He added that TNI Headquarters would provide further operational updates.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) strongly condemned the attack. “Indonesia strongly condemns the incident and calls for a thorough and transparent investigation,” the ministry said via its official X account.
The government expressed its deepest condolences for the death of the TNI member and reiterated its call for respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty. “Indonesia urges all parties to halt attacks on civilians and infrastructure and to return to dialogue and diplomacy to prevent further escalation and advance peace,” the ministry stated.
The attack highlights rising tensions in southern Lebanon and underscores the risks faced by UN peacekeeping forces operating in conflict zones.
